In this week’s podcast, Jennifer Richmond and Angel Eduardo launch a new series on faith and liberalism. They spent some time wrestling with where to begin with such a weighty topic, when they finally landed on simply sharing their own personal faith journeys. They embark on this discussion with curiosity and humility, neither trying to convert, correct or proselytize, but simply in exploration of the origins of their common humanity and shared values. We invite others to join in the conversation with suggestions and questions in the comments, which we will address in upcoming episodes. We will be inviting other guests to join us and look forward to further conversations on the complexities of faith, liberalism and the intersection of both in search of a strategy for human flourishing.

We'd like to introduce you to ILV's new friend, Professor of Social Work Dr. Nafees Alam. If you want to know more about Nafees, Elizabeth and Jennifer interview him on the Dissidents Podcast, Morals and Masculinity, and you can check out his bio and many essays on our Substack. Our partner podcast, Free Speech Forward, also interview Nafees in Viewpoint Diversity is Key for Intellectual Growth, which was just released.
Nafees will lead our December Liberal Values Lab: Use of the Legal-Moral Matrix in the College Classroom. The matrix encourages students to move beyond binary thinking of right vs wrong and consider more sophisticated dimensions such as legality, morality, time, culture and intention. The approach not only deepens understanding but also promotes a more inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are examined critically.
Mark your calendars and join the discussion live on the ILV YouTube or on X (@ilvalues).
Additionally, Nafees will participate in our December Liberalism in Practice Panel Discussion - Fair, Inclusive & Safe: Transgender Sports Policy - with Zander Keig and Stella O'Malley of Genspect. In this panel we explore the nuance and complexity of developing transgender policy that considers fairness, inclusion and safety for all athletes. We consider different policy options and their impact on students, athletes, and coaches as well as on the larger conversation on transgender policy making.
Join us on our YouTube or X (@ilvalues) and be part of the discussion.
Be on the lookout for our Liberal Concept Explainers videos series on scrutiny suppression. Watch the first video in the series below. The second drops later this week.
This month on the Dissidents Podcast, Jennifer speaks with Angel Eduardo about faith journeys and liberalism, Elizabeth and Jennifer discuss "Empowered Education", Wink and Jennifer speak with Pastor Dumisani Washington about his "origin" story, faith and the Institute for Black Solidarity with Israel, and we roll out our fourth and final episode in our Critical vs Classical Social Justice in Social Work series.
